| At an emergency meeting of the divisional heads of animal units in the South African Police Services in July, it was decided to replace the outdated SAPS microchip scanning and data system (for animal identification) with equipment and expertise to be provided by Identipet (Pty) Ltd.
This marks the commitment of yet another high profile user to the Identipet™ microchipping system, which has been in use in Southern Africa for the past 15 years, identifying hundreds of thousands of animals. The decision was implemented by the commander of the SAPS Dog School, Senior Superintendent Dr. Hannes Strydom, to whom microchip scanners for these national units were presented, on August 25th 2004. He is pictured here with Sr. Dalene Corbett. Dr. Strydom is in overall command of the pool of approximately two thousand police and army dogs, horses and other animals on official duty throughout the country. Identipet™ microchips are totally unique in two important features. They are available with the new and patented temperature sensing (as well as ID) ability, and are also the only microchips with patented anti-migration (Bio-Bond™) capacity. Dr. Strydom commented that the Identipet™ technology would be essential in planning for the increased need for trained animals in the run-up, and during, the soccer World Cup of 2010. |
